Realistic Fire Safety Drill at the Deichbrand Festival

Date
20. July 2026

Even at a festival, good preparation is essential. That is why an emergency scenario was recently rehearsed on the grounds of the Deichbrand Festival in Wanhöden. The exercise simulated a vehicle fire at one of the campsites, with both the festival’s own “Firefighters” fire brigade and fire crews from the surrounding area being called to the scene. The main focus was on cooperation between the emergency services, a reliable firefighting water supply and clearly coordinated procedures for a real emergency.

Tom Schilling accompanied the exercise in his role as Fire Safety Officer for the Deichbrand Festival. The procedures on site were closely monitored and documented – from the initial alarm and the arrival of the emergency services to the water supply and coordination between the participating fire brigades.

Exercises like this demonstrate whether the planned measures also work under realistic conditions. At the same time, they provide valuable insights that help to further improve emergency response and safety concepts. For us, this is an important part of our work: identifying potential risks at an early stage, testing procedures under practical conditions and working closely with everyone involved to ensure that every action is carried out effectively when a real emergency occurs.
